GITEX 2026 runs from 7 to 11 December 2026 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai, not in October at Dubai World Trade Centre. Dubai moved the show into its peak tourist season so visitors stay longer and spend more. The price is a hall at full stretch and December hotel rates.

That October habit runs deep, so plenty of company calendars are still wrong. In fact, the 2026 doors open 420 days after the 2025 edition did. So founders who planned on a normal 12-month cycle have gained almost two extra months.

What changed for GITEX 2026

Four things moved at once, and each one changes a budget line.

The dates. The GITEX Scale Summit takes Monday 7 December. After that, the expo runs Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 December, according to the Dubai Media Office announcement of October 2025.

The venue. The show leaves Dubai World Trade Centre, its long-time home. Instead, it opens at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, where phase one finished in January 2026 with 140,000 square metres of event space.

The startup show. Expand North Star rejoins the main event on one site. In 2025, by contrast, it ran separately at Dubai Harbour from 12 to 15 October.

The brand. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid directed in October 2025 that GITEX TechCation 2026 become the world’s largest technology and AI event. That is a target, not a forecast, but it sets the scale.

Why Dubai moved GITEX to December

Start with how an event earns money for a city. A trade show imports wealthy visitors, and the city gains most when they stay an extra night. October is a shoulder month in Dubai. December, however, is the peak.

The numbers show the gap. Dubai hotels filled 84.3 percent of rooms in December 2025, the best December since 2006, at an average rate of AED 1,042.11, on CoStar data released in January 2026.

So the logic is not more room nights. Instead, it is more spend per visitor. Trixie LohMirmand, Executive Vice President at Dubai World Trade Centre, called the format “a fundamental reconfiguration of global tech events”. Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, added that “GITEX has long been more than just a tech show”.

The December calendar helps too. UAE National Day falls on Wednesday 2 December. Then the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs from 3 to 6 December. As a result, one flight can now cover a national holiday, a Formula 1 weekend and GITEX 2026.

Can Expo City handle GITEX 2026?

This is the question exhibitors should ask first. Phase one of the Dubai Exhibition Centre can handle 50,000 people a day, The National reported in September 2026.

The FOUAE calculation

The same report said about 200,000 technology executives from more than 180 countries are expected. Spread across four expo days, that is 50,000 visitors a day. In other words, GITEX 2026 would run the new halls at exactly their rated daily limit.

Treat that as a floor, not a ceiling. It assumes each person attends once. Since many visitors come on two or three days, the real daily crowd could run higher. Meanwhile, the phase two concourse that links the halls is not due until September 2027.

December hotel rates are the bill GITEX 2026 visitors pay

Now the cost side. Dubai’s average room rate in the first half of 2026 was AED 701.10, on CoStar data cited by CBRE. Last December’s rate of AED 1,042.11 was about 49 percent higher.

So a four-night stay at last December’s average costs about AED 4,170 in room charges alone. For a startup flying in a team of three, that comes to roughly AED 12,500 before fees. These are FOUAE (Founders of UAE) estimates from 2025 averages, so treat them as a guide.

For hotels, though, this is the point. After a soft first half, they gain a peak-season week with a captive business crowd. The tourism recovery story therefore runs straight through this show.

Who gains from the December slot

Hotels and restaurants gain a high-spending crowd during their strongest month, when they can hold price.

Expo City and Dubai South gain a flagship tenant. The AED 10 billion expansion of the exhibition centre needs anchor shows. Gulfood already used it in January 2026, alongside the Trade Centre.

Startups gain buyers under the same roof. In 2025, Expand North Star founders had to cross the city to reach the main halls. Now the UAE startup ecosystem meets corporate buyers on one site.

Dubai’s events calendar gains a closing anchor. The National counted more than 100 exhibitions in the last four months of 2026 as shows postponed in spring found new dates. Amer Al Farsi, Vice President of Real Estate Development at DWTC, put it simply: “If we didn’t have dual exhibition spaces, we would not be able to host 100-plus events.”

Who has to adjust

Lean exhibitors pay peak rates. A bootstrapped founder who stayed near the Trade Centre in October now books in the city’s priciest month.

City-centre visitors face a longer trip. Expo City sits at the end of the Dubai Metro Red Line’s Route 2020 branch, far from DIFC and Downtown. So a meeting plan that hopped between towers no longer works on the same day.

International buyers may face year-end limits. In our view, December is when many Western firms close their books, so some decisions may slip into January.

The case against December

The strongest objection is displacement. If GITEX guests fill rooms that leisure guests would have booked anyway, the net gain is smaller than the headline. Hotels win on rate, yet the city may not win on total visitors.

That said, the timing softens the risk. The real December peak sits at New Year’s Eve, when CoStar recorded 94.1 percent of rooms filled. GITEX 2026, by contrast, closes on 11 December, a fortnight before that rush begins.

How founders should plan for GITEX 2026

Book rooms now. Choose hotels near Expo City, Dubai South or the Red Line, not just near the Trade Centre.

Use the long weekend. Book investor meetings around National Day and the Grand Prix, before the halls get crowded.

Arrive with booked slots. Because the halls may run at full capacity, walk-up meetings will be harder to land.

Read the wider machine. Our analysis of how Dubai turned trade shows into a $7 billion growth engine explains why the city keeps investing in shows like this.

The verdict on GITEX 2026

Dubai is betting that a longer, pricier stay beats a cheaper, shorter one. Last December’s hotel numbers suggest the bet is sound. However, the halls will run at their limit, so preparation now matters more than ever. GITEX 2026 rewards the founders who book early and plan their days around one site.
