The Etihad Rail ticket price starts at AED 39 one way in Comfort and AED 109 in Premium. Those fares apply between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but they rise at busy times. On FOUAE (Founders of UAE) figures, the train is usually the cheaper weekday trip for one adult. However, two or more people pay less by car.
Data: Etihad Rail statements and fares reported by The National, Khaleej Times and Gulf News (September to October 2026). Fuel prices are for November 2026, and tolls and parking follow Salik, Darb and Abu Dhabi Mobility tariffs. FOUAE marks its own calculations, and because fares change often, check the app before booking.

- On weekdays, the train usually suits one adult, but two or more pay less by car.
What is the Etihad Rail ticket price from Abu Dhabi to Dubai?
The Etihad Rail ticket price on this route starts at AED 39 for Comfort and AED 109 for Premium. Khaleej Times reported those fares when bookings opened on 28 September.
Etihad Rail said prices vary by “selected service, time and date of trip”, as The National reported on 8 October. Comfort seats ranged from AED 39 to AED 59, the paper found, while Premium seats ranged from AED 109 to AED 149.
Generally, prices rose on afternoon, evening and weekend trains. A Comfort ticket priced at AED 39 online cost AED 60 at a station vending machine, Gulf News reported. So, on FOUAE’s arithmetic, booking online saved AED 21 on that seat.
Etihad Rail ticket price discounts for children and seniors
Children aged 2 to 17 pay 50 per cent of the adult fare, Gulf News reported in July. In addition, infants under two travel free on an adult’s lap. Seniors aged 60 and over also get 20 per cent off, the paper said. On those terms, therefore, a child’s Etihad Rail ticket price starts at AED 19.50 in Comfort.
Where the train stops, and how long it takes
In Dubai, the train leaves from Al Yalayis Station in Jumeirah Golf Estates. By contrast, the Abu Dhabi end sits opposite Dalma Mall, at Mohamed bin Zayed City Station. The journey takes 64 minutes, The National reported, and services began on 30 September 2026.
At launch, ten trains ran on weekdays, five each way, Khaleej Times reported. Because early demand was strong, Etihad Rail added six services for the weekend of 3 and 4 October, The National reported.
Neither station sits in a city centre, so the last mile counts. In Dubai, a covered footbridge of about 400 metres links Al Yalayis to the Red Line’s Jumeirah Golf Estates station, The National reported. Similarly, an Etihad Rail shuttle in Abu Dhabi costs AED 10 a journey to ADNOC headquarters on the Corniche, ADNEC or Reem Mall.
Etihad Rail ticket price vs driving: which is cheaper?
For one adult on a weekday, the train is usually cheaper, but for two or more, the car wins. That is because train fares rise with every passenger. By contrast, a car’s fuel, tolls and parking cost the same for one person or four.
The FOUAE calculation
FOUAE priced a weekday trip from Deira to the Abu Dhabi Corniche and back, door to door.
By train: the model starts with a Nol one-day Metro pass at AED 22, which Etihad Rail offers at booking. Next, it adds two train fares and the AED 10 shuttle each way in Abu Dhabi. At the lowest Comfort fare of AED 39, the day therefore costs AED 120 per adult. At AED 59, it costs AED 160.
By car: the trip is about 150 km each way. Khaleej Times used that distance from Union Metro Station in Deira to central Abu Dhabi. For fuel, the model uses Special 95 at the November price of AED 4.04 a litre. It also assumes the car burns 8 to 10 litres per 100 km.
For tolls, the car first pays the AED 4 Ghantoot Darb gate each way. Khaleej Times also counted four Salik charges each way on this route, at AED 4.20 off-peak or AED 6.30 peak. In the peak case, an Abu Dhabi bridge gate adds a further AED 4 each way. Finally, a day in a standard Mawaqif bay costs AED 15, on Abu Dhabi Mobility’s tariff. In total, the car therefore costs AED 154 to AED 203.
| Travellers (day return) | Train, Comfort | Car |
|---|---|---|
| 1 adult | AED 120 to 160 | AED 154 to 203 |
| 2 adults | AED 240 to 320 | AED 154 to 203 |
| 2 adults and 2 children | AED 402 to 522 | AED 154 to 203 |
On these assumptions, one car trip costs about the same as 1.3 adult train trips. So a second adult tips the balance to the car.
When the car beats the Etihad Rail ticket price for one person
However, on Sundays Salik charges its off-peak rate all day and Abu Dhabi street parking is free, Gulf News guides show. So a solo driver can match a weekend train fare.
The model also assumes children use the Metro pass and shuttle, and it counts only trip costs.
Why the November petrol price matters
Meanwhile, Special 95 fell to AED 4.04 a litre for November from AED 4.28, the UAE Fuel Price Committee announced on 31 October. On FOUAE’s arithmetic, that cut saves about AED 7 on a 300 km return drive at 10 litres per 100 km. So the car’s lead for groups grew slightly this month.

What the Etihad Rail ticket price buys that a car does not
However, cost is only one measure. The train’s 64-minute run is predictable, while drive times depend on traffic. A train seat also frees the journey for work or rest.
Demand has been strong, too. Etihad Rail sold 120,000 tickets across its whole network between 30 September and 30 October, it said. Adhraa Almansoori is executive director of commercial and support at Etihad Rail Mobility. “Our ambition is for passenger rail to become a natural part of everyday life,” she said, The National reported.
Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed, the chairman of Etihad Rail, spoke at the Dubai station’s inauguration on 28 September. “With every new extension of the network, we strengthen the integration of our emirates,” he said, Gulf News reported. Our earlier analysis of the UAE rail network also looks at who gains from that integration.
What changes next
New stations at Madinat Zayed and Liwa open on 30 November, The National reported. After that, Al Sila, Al Mirfa and Al Dhannah follow on 30 December. FOUAE will therefore update this Etihad Rail ticket price comparison when new fares and fuel prices come out.
The verdict on the Etihad Rail ticket price
Overall, on FOUAE’s calculation, the Etihad Rail ticket price makes the train the cheaper weekday choice for a solo traveller. For couples and families, however, the car costs less on trip costs alone. That is because one tank of fuel covers everyone. In practice, booking off-peak and online keeps the train fare closest to AED 39.
